Is religiosity, that is, the way of practising religion, something which leads to violence, especially when an individual or group of people makes an ideology of religion, taking it to extremes through different readings and interpretations? What are the profound causes and the distant origins which lie behind the violence at the beginnings of the history of Islam? How can one analyse what commentators call a contemporary “religious war” legitimised by some by reference to cartoons and writings insulting Islam and Muslims?
