Conclusion
The religious reference books, the norms associated with them and the rules taken from them have depended, in the course of the centuries, on the actions of leaders who have not always had the same intentions, nor the same interpretation. Historical study shows the situation does not remain the same, and it allows us to see how obstacles arise. In the case of domestic violence in relation to women in Lebanon, one is forced to conclude that religious leaders of all denominations have refused to vote for a law explicitly condemning it. And not one of them has supported plans for civil marriage. The issue here is not just one of doctrine, it is also economic (all services of religious authorities are paid for) and social.
