Lord Cromer’s letter to Yaqub Sarruf

Dear Dr SARRUF,
I regret that I should be obliged to leave Egypt without shaking hands with yourself, but I am sure that you will have understood the circumstances. I hope that you will accept the enclosed photograph of myself as a slight souvenir of our past relations and with it the expression of my sincere thanks for the powerful assistance which you have rendered for so many years to the cause of intellectual enlightenment and moral development in this country.
