Unbelief, apostasy and idolatry

The three obsessions of Dar-al-Islam are unbelief, apostasy and idolatry. Irrespective of genuine injustice or the aggressive character of the enemy, the unbeliever is by nature the enemy on which one should wage war because he opposes divine uniqueness. As Jean-Charles Ducène writes, “the war against the heretic is legitimate by reason of his lack of faith, indeed this means war that is permanent, offensive war.....not defensive. Humanity is thus divided into two zones: Dar-al-Islam, or 'abode of Islam', in which the Law of God reigns, and Dar-al-harb, that is, the 'abode of impiety' or the 'abode of war.'”

The “apostate” is, according to him, treated as an 'unbeliever', and death is the only sanction able to liberate the guilty from their apostasy. Conversion is the means of escaping Evil, to be replaced by Good: an internal conversion which signifies the rejection of apostasy. It is the truth against imposture, against lying, hypocrisy. Dar-al-Islam is obsessed with idolatry, which often serves as a metonym for unbelief: the objective is to destroy idols – it is the greatest mission of 'Islamic State' – which notably is the justification for the destruction of mausoleums (when the worship of tombs is raised, this is principally aimed at Sufi brotherhoods). Even the tomb of a prophet must be destroyed because it has become the object of a cult, for it has been made an idol, as much as other marks of 'false' religions: shirk, or 'associationism', which breaks divine uniqueness, is the “worst sin committed by men because it puts the feeble and incapable creatures on the same level as the all-Powerful and Omnipotent Creator of the universe.”

Dar-al-Islam groups together their aversion to Muslim idolatry (Shi'tes, tawaghit) and to that of non Muslims (such as democrats, “who give to the people the right to legislate”): they should be hated and fought against in the same way. Enemies are the allies of Satan – thus Yazidis[1] are described as “devil worshippers.” The television channel Al-Jazeera is, curiously, presented as the “Channel of the Judo-masonic monarchy of Qatar”, largely because of the support it has given to the Al-Nusra Front (an off-shoot of Al-Qaeda) in Syria, a rival group to Daesh. The diabolisation of the interior and exterior enemy draws on both a body of work from Muslim tradition and discourse borrowed from European ideology, such that they can say to Daesh's French-speaking readers: “the tawghit governors as well as all their apostate soldiers have passed all limits by their association of Allah in the Judgement, they have revealed for all the world to see their alliance to the unbeliever states of the crusaders, and thus their allegiance to Judo-masonry.” France is characterised as “a corrupt mode of thinking established by Judo-masonry.”

“The same Judo-masonic hands who have expelled religion from school and allowed the introduction of fornication, homosexuality, the death of infants politely called abortion” is also an issue where France is concerned. The targets recommended by Dar-al-Islam for attacks there are, amongst others: “Busy places, such as tourist sites, open spaces, synagogues, churches, masonic lodges, political headquarters, the places of worship of apostates”. “Secularism” is targeted systematically, in the Arab countries as in those of the West, in particular, France. France is doubly culpable: as the country which instigated the Crusades against Islam; as the country of the Revolution “fomented in the masonic lodges”, which converted France to a new religion “as dishonest and idolatrous as Roman Catholicism”- democracy and secularism. This nation would thus have continued to fight Islam, this time in the name of reason: “As for you, shocked by Palestinian children who kill Jews, know that every day Muslim children are killed in the institutions of the Judo-masonic republic.”

The non-Muslim enemy is almost systematically presented as a Jew or crusader, Dar-al-Islam thus places its enemies in a hierarchy: “How can Christians, in France and elsewhere, accept being governed by this nest of vipers? We call on Christians no longer to accept Jewish domination.” The Western economy “of moneylenders” is presented as satanic. France would thus be oppressed by “the grip of the Jewish usurers”, like the international economic system: “usury controlled by international finance which is too often Jewish.” and “crusader governments which are the puppets of Jewish usury.” “ The aim of education in contemporary jahiliyah[2] is to cultivate in the child and adolescent such abject behaviour and such weakness that, bound to his most vile instincts, he becomes a slave to the real masters in the West, the Jewish corrupters.” Making reference to verse 155 of Surah 4, the Jews are described as “blaspheming assassins of the Prophets”. The Prime Minister Manuel Valls having declared in 2015 that the Jews were the avant-garde of the Republic, they should therefore be the first to die in Islam and the Caliphate's war against France. Unbelief is thus often put into a hierarchy in this order, to fight the Jewish, Christian, Shi'ite and democratic unbelievers.

Dar-al-Islam equally 'judaises' the Shi'ites, advancing the thesis of Ibn Taymiyyah : “The hatred of the rafidah Shi'ites for Islam and the people of the Sunna is an ancestral hatred since it relates to the creation of that sect by the Jewish Yemeni false convert to Islam Abdallah ibn Saba[3]”. Rather, it is a form of marranism: “Ibn Taymiyyah has said: 'The men of science have indicated that the origins of the Rafidah are the work of the Zindiq[4] Abdallah ibn Saba who appeared to be a Muslim while secretly remaining a Jew in order to corrupt Islamic religion, as Paul the Jew did to corrupt Christianity.' [Majmou al-Fatawa 28/484].”

  1. Yazidis

Yazidism, or the religion of the seven angels: Kurdish religion presented by its faithful (Yazidis) as a survival of ancient Iranian Mithraism: it was a heterodox movement of Sunni Islam which appeared in the twelfth century and then blended with surviving anti-Islamic practices in Kurdistan – hence Daesh's hatred of it.

  2. Jahiliya

Jahiliya (or ignorance): Term which signifies, according to most interpretations of the Qu'ran, the pre-Islamic era characterised in the territories where Islam was to emerge by polytheism.

  3. Abdallah ibn Saba'

Abdallah ibn Saba' (Al-Husayn ibn Salam before his conversion to Islam): One of the circle of the Companions of the Prophet, according to Muslim tradition, which states that he was a well-known rabbi before his conversion.

  4. Zindiq

Term for those who profess ideas or practice what are contrary to Islam, and by extension apostates and infidels.
