WOMEN AND RELIGIONS: PORTRAITS, ORGANISATIONS, DEBATES

Conclusion

To an increasing number of women and men, notably those who yearn for democracy, a woman's right to education and to work amounts to a necessity. They back this view with their reading or on a scientific exegesis of the religious texts – as do their opponents, whose number has fallen in the 21st century. For the former, it is imperative to develop a more suitable religious education. Women's education and their right to work are prerequisite stages towards gender equality. According to this reading, women must not be constrained by the stranglehold of normative religious teachings deemed timeless and preternatural but on the contrary released from prejudiced traditional thinking, which it falls to societies to change.
