ونحن لا نحسب لأنفسنا فضلاً في إنشاء المقتطف ولا مزيّة في بلوغه هذه المنزلة ولكن العناية أتاحت لنا أنّا أعددنا المعدات الكافية لإنشائه بالدرس والتدريس مدّة عشرين عاماً وبجمع نخبة الكتب العلميّة والصناعيّة والأدبيّة وانتقاء أشهر الجرائد الأوروبيّة والأميركيّة التي يكتب فيها أكبر علماء العصر فسهل علينا البحث والتنقيب واختيار أطلى المواضيع وأكثرها فائدةً ووجدنا من علمائنا وفضلائنا نصراء يحمون حمى المعارف ويسعون في نشر لوائها فأخذوا بيدنا وحلّوا جيد المقتطف بدرر أفكارهم ونفثات أقلامهم أو سعوا في نشره وتعميم نفعه.

We have sought no personal advantage in founding Al-Muqtataf and take no credits for its achievements. Providence granted us access to all the tools required for its foundation as twenty years in academia helped garner a sound collection of scientific, economic and literary texts and select the most famous European and American papers publishing the most eminent contemporary scientists. This made researching, mastering and selecting original and useful themes easier. We found among our own esteemed scholars champions willing to defend knowledge and seeking to advance it. They helped us, added to the beauty of al-Muqtataf with the treasures of their thinking and their inspired writing and contributed to its circulation and the propagation of its spirit.
