If the Christians force the Muslims to insult the Prophet, they should name him Hamed as the Christians do – and not think of him as God's messenger, but [...] as some Jewish figure named Ahmed. A Morisco forced to go to church at a time set by Islam for prayer is dispensed from it and it is counted as done... Meanwhile, if it proves difficult for him to pray during the day, he can do so at night. Purification rites prior to prayer can also be conducted through other means... like dipping in sea water, or running a clean substance over the body, like earth of wood. Besides, if he is forced to drink alcohol or eat pork, he can do so as long as he still deems it a sin... Furthermore if Moriscos are forced to renege on their faith, then they must quibble in their answers

Letter sent in 1504 by Algerian Mufti Ahmad ibn Abu Juma'a Al-Maghraoui AlOuahrani who died in 1529. Document found by Abdellah Inane in the Vatican library.
