In November 1925, [Brémond] agreed to meet with Escolier and Brousson in a ‘Council of war’ to examine my ‘nightingales’. Escholier wanted to put together a second collection in which the Rosaire [Rosary] would be included. I abandoned all my poems, good or bad, to them. And they went out into my field (of poetry) like women after salad leaves, or mushrooms, or flowers, each gathering whatever pleased them amongst all the verses which were mostly no more than grass to graze on by common beasts and still!
